Setup, recording, file transfer, and recorder troubleshooting.

Device features require a compatible AOTAOREC recorder. Keep the recorder nearby during setup and file transfer.

Quick start

  1. Power on the recorder and enable Bluetooth on your phone.
  2. Open AOTAOREC Recorder and grant the requested nearby-device permission.
  3. Tap the connection control at the top and select your recorder by its short ID.
  4. Use Recordings to browse and download files, or Settings to change supported device options.

Frequently asked questions

The recorder does not appear or will not connect
  1. Confirm the recorder and phone Bluetooth are on.
  2. On Android 7–11, turn on the phone's system Location switch; those Android versions require it when finding nearby devices.
  3. Keep the phone close to the recorder and reopen the device list.
  4. To change recorders, select the other recorder directly. You do not need to disconnect first.
Continuous and voice-activated recording

Continuous mode keeps every sound until you stop recording. Voice-activated mode pauses during quiet periods and starts after sound stays above the selected sensitivity for a short time. Very soft or brief words may not start it. If speech sounds broken or sentence beginnings are missing, raise the sensitivity, move the recorder closer, or use Continuous mode.

The recording is too quiet, noisy, or distorted

Point the microphone opening toward the speakers and keep the recorder away from phones, chargers, computers, air conditioners, and fluorescent lights when possible. Start with the default sound settings. Raise microphone sensitivity one step for distant voices, or lower it when nearby speech crackles or sounds harsh.

Download a recording

Open Recordings and choose Recorder. A new file appears after the recorder closes it; stop recording and refresh if the latest file is not shown. Keep the phone close. On Android, leave AOTAOREC transfer notifications enabled so an automatic batch can continue after the screen locks. You can stop the current file or stop the batch. Downloaded copies remain available on the phone after the recorder disconnects.

Play, share, delete, or import recordings

Download a recorder file before playing, sharing, transcribing, or using AI Voice Enhancement. Deleting a phone copy moves it to the Recycle Bin; deleting a file under Recorder removes that recorder copy and cannot be undone. For cable transfer, open Recordings > USB. Android uses a data-capable USB OTG cable and folder permission. iPhone uses the system Files picker when the connected drive and adapter are supported by iOS. USB import copies files to the phone and does not write them back.

Use AI Voice Enhancement or turn a recording into text

Download and open the recording first. Playback starts in Original mode; Gentle, Balanced, and Strong process a phone copy without changing the original. If quiet words become less clear, use Original or a lighter level. Offline Transcription offers Automatic, Fast, Balanced, and Accurate models. Recording language is separate from the App language. Models, processing, and transcripts stay on the phone, and recording audio is not uploaded for these features. Results can still contain mistakes, especially with quiet, mixed-language, or overlapping speech.

Live Transcription is different from the final transcript

Live Transcription creates a quick English, Chinese, or mixed-language draft while the recorder sound is active. Stopping it does not stop recording. For a more complete result, finish and download the recording, then run Offline Transcription on that file.

Use Listen While Recording

Connect the recorder and start Listen While Recording from the Record screen. Accept the phone pairing request the first time. Keep AOTAOREC in the foreground. Phone listening stops in the background, but recording continues. In Voice-Activated mode, the phone is silent while the recorder waits for sound. AOTAOREC does not save or upload the sound played on the phone. Use this feature only where you have permission.

Timed recording does not start

Set the power-on time, power-off time, and repeat option first. Enable Timed recording and wait for confirmation, then move the recorder's power switch to OFF. Manually powering on the recorder cancels the pending schedule.

Internal storage is full or unavailable
  1. Back up every readable recording in the App or on a computer before trying a repair.
  2. Stop recording, reconnect the recorder, and refresh the file list once.
  3. If a computer cannot open it, enable USB File Access and try a direct USB port and another cable.
  4. Run Check and Recover Internal Storage before formatting. It retries access without deleting recordings.
  5. Format internal storage only after backup and only while recording, downloads, listening, and updates are stopped. Formatting permanently erases all recordings.
  6. If formatting fails or storage remains unavailable, stop using the recorder and contact Support. The storage is factory-installed and is not user-replaceable; do not open the recorder.
Name, switch, or remove a recorder

Settings can save a local name for each recorder. Use the connection button at the top to switch directly; the short ID still identifies nearby devices. A recorder keeps one secure App link at a time. Remove Recorder clears the link and local name but keeps recordings and recording settings. If the original phone is unavailable, hold the recorder main button for about eight seconds to restore settings and clear saved phone links; recordings are kept.

Button and indicator controls
  • Press the main button once to show battery status.
  • Press twice to switch Continuous or Voice-Activated recording.
  • Press three times to turn status lights on or off.
  • Hold for about two seconds to turn the phone connection on or off. A short green light means on and a short red light means off.
  • Hold for about eight seconds to restore settings and remove saved phone pairings; recording files are kept.
Firmware update

Open Settings > Firmware Update and install only an update offered by AOTAOREC for the connected recorder. Charge the recorder and stop recording, downloads, USB access, and Listen While Recording. Keep the phone nearby and do not close the App or power off the recorder during installation. The page shows unavailable when the phone or recorder does not support the verified update path. Never install a package received through email, chat, or an unknown website.

Contact support

Email support@aotaorec.com. Include the recorder model, App version, firmware version, phone model, and a short description of what happened. The App can prepare optional diagnostics for you to review before sending.

Support is provided in English and Chinese. Do not include passwords, payment card information, identity documents, or recordings unless support has specifically explained why they are required.
